About me...
Mathew Lomas is a multidisciplinary composer, specialising in music and scoring for moving image. Originally from the Wirral, Merseyside Mat grew up surrounded by a wide array of music, studying classical, jazz and Electric guitar. After graduating from the Leeds College of Musics prestigious Jazz Studies course, (majoring in guitar) Mats career took him on tours which included performances at the Royal Albert Hall, the French alps and Liverpool Sound City.
After a significant period of DJ and live tours, Mat decided to focus more on his studio production and composition work. Initially this focused around his own Electronic Dance music project Portamento, before expanding this work by writing music for choreographed dance, film and TV and other emerging artists. In 2021 he obtained a first class honours in Creative Practice (MA) from Goldsmiths University of London (where Mat now works as a studio assistant engineer). The course centred around composition for moving image and multimedia, allowing Mat to refine and develop his production and compositional skillset. His final portfolio saw the release of his audiovisual album 'Im not the sentimental type, but...' which was premiered at the Future Yard, and exhibited in situ at Bloom Building, Birkenhead.
Today Mat is based in London, writing music for sync-related media, as well as mixing and producing music for his Portamento and Gumflowr projects, as well as writing and producing for many other artists . He also teaches music production and Djing at the London School of Electronic Music (LSEM)
Clients have included Warner Brothers, Nike, BBC, Cartoon Network, Trinity Laban, Eifman Ballet, Diageo drinks group and EA Sports amongst others. Mats own music has been released on Nervous Records and Sony.
